Abstract
Grimsby student Kelly Wakefield is currently enjoying a semester placement at Central
Missouri State University as part of the University of Central Lancashire's exchange
programme.
The nineteen year old former student of Humberston High School decided to take up the
placement because it complimented her degree in American Studies and Geography. Along
with wanting a new challenge, Kelly also feels that the experience will enhance her job
prospects in showing employers that she can cope with different situations in a foreign
country.
Since arriving in America Kelly has met people from all over the world and made new
friends, who want to visit her in England. So far she's managed to explore Kansas City, on the
Missouri side, go shopping in a town called Independence and stayed in a hotel round the
Lake of Ozark with some friends.
Kelly confidence has increased since she's going out there and she's learnt more about
America but she feels that one semester is enough.
"I am really enjoying it here but feel that one semester is long enough for me and all the other
exchange students are only here for a semester. I'm the only British student here so it'll be
nice to here some British accents when I get home."
