Abstract
Yorkshire student Philip Holmes is currently enjoying a year's placement at Fresno State University in sunny California as part of the University of Central Lancashire's exchange programme.
The twenty year old former student of Spen Valley High School in Liversedge is fulfilling a life-long ambition to experience life in America. From being a child Philip has wanted to live in the states but didn't want to move out after completing his degree in Marketing until he was certain he'd like it, but the exchange programme has solved the problem.
"I didn't want to move out and find that I didn't like it and then have to move back, it would take a lot of time and money. By doing the placement I get to find out if I do like it out here and could stay for many years. I also took part in it because I get to go to Fresno State University which will look got on my CV."
Philip has recently returned from a weekend trip to San Diego with some of his friends. Whilst there they drove to a clothes outlet on the border of Mexico and went round San Diego before hitting Pacific beach for a rest in the sun. He describes San Diego as very clean with loads of cool shops but very expensive.
Although a bit homesick at first Philip is having a brilliant time and thinks that one day he'll settle in America.
