Anne became a registered midwife in 1983 and initially worked in both hospital and community settings in the North West. She then went on to focus on neonatal care and undertook further post registration education at the regional Neonatal Unit in Birmingham. She remained within this clinical speciality for a number of years before embarking on a full time career in midwifery education. She received her Master in Education degree from the University of Manchester in 1998.
Anne is based in the School of Health. Her particular interest has previously centred on advanced neonatal nurse practice and she became joint programme leader for a collaborative MSc in Advanced Neonatal Practice with the University of Salford.

She has also developed and been programme lead for a post registration module in Examination of the Newborn for the last 10 years which has had a significant impact on midwifery practice within local Trusts.
Anne has recently had a book published by Wiley Blackwell : Examination of the Newborn-An Evidence Based Guide (2011). The book is based on the current NIPE Standards and Competencies document (2008). The second edition of this text is due to be published August 2015.
She is also a member of the NIPE Clinical Examination Advisory Group for the UK Screening Committee Newborn Infant Physical Examination, Public Health England and is delighted to be able to contribute to raising, the standard and quality of the newborn examination on a national level.
