James is an Honorary Professor in General Practice at the UCLAN School of Medicine and Dentistry. He has worked as a GP in Padiham since 2005 and is the Health Inequalities Clinical Lead for Burnley West Primary Care Network.
He is also the Founder of the Green Dreams Project, a Health Innovation social enterprise that is largely responsible for the development of social prescribing locally and nationally. In East Lancashire he set up the over 75’s Specialist Nurse Practitioner Programme and numerous childhood nutrition projects in schools, all of which continue.
As well as direct experience of teaching at UCLAN Medical School, James has an MSc in Primary Care from UCLAN. He is committed to sharing resources and promoting science, health literacy and good nutrition across the community

To this end he networks continuously to ensure a steady knowledge exchange across sectors and to highlight the expertise that is available from UCLAN.
His wish to improve the health of the community led to him accepting the role of Clinical Director for Burnley West Primary Care Network (PCN - 50,000 patients) in 2019. In that role he managed the COVID response and vaccine program throughout the pandemic.
Over the years he has won several awards including GP of the Year and the Mayor’s award for Outstanding contribution to the community.
