I am a Senior Lecturer in Psychology at the University of Central Lancashire. I am a researcher in Personality and Individual Differences and much of my earlier work concentrates on emotional intelligence (EI). Some of this work lies at the forefront of debate around whether the construct can be measured validly, but I have also tried to understand the relationship between EI and aspects of mental health. As a result of my work in the EI field, I am interested in emotional processing more generally, especially emotion perception/identification and dysregulation in individuals with borderline personality disorder traits. Other interests include mentalisation based therapy for personality disorder, and the functions of non-suicidal self-injury.
