Astrid specializes in travel writing and autobiography of the Americas, African Diaspora and Latinx Studies, Gender, and Science Studies. Herr current research project explores black-authored autobiographies from the wider Age of Revolutions (1760-1860) and their articulations of black people's mobilities across the Americas.
Astrid worked as a researcher and lecturer in North American and Inter-American Studies at the universities of Münster, Bielefeld, and Wuppertal (all Germany). She further taught Academic Writing at the University of Giessen in Germany. She currently holds a Marie Curie Intra-European Fellowship to carry out her research at the Institute for Black Atlantic Research at UCLan.
