Abstract

This dissertation is intended to undertake research into Building Information Modelling, in particular to identify its capabilities and limits and to more so establish how the quantity surveyor may be affected as a direct result of BIM. The field of research will pay particular attention into the influence of BIM in modern day construction. This will involve interrogating the current scale of operation within the industry, determining what duties may change and what could be of advantage to the quantity surveyor. A quantitative research method was selected to be conducted by way of a questionnaire survey. The primary data was collected and analysed by a descriptive statistic method. Overall the research indicates the industry, and in particular quantity surveyors, are aware of BIM and are conscious of the benefits that can be offered to the QS. It highlights how the surveyor should act now in order to keep up with the times and not get left behind.
