Social, environmental and economic effects of green housing concept.

Abstract

The green concept is fast gaining momentum in the United Kingdom (UK) and other developed countries. Even the UK government is publicly advocating for all constructional projects to inculcate specific aspects of the green building concept. However, everything that is happening concurs with the perceived benefits of the green housing concept. Sensing the importance of determining the possible effects of the green concept, the study’s objective is to assess the social, environmental and economic effects of green concept on residential buildings. By relying on questionnaire-based survey approach, the study determined the different views of constructors and residents with respect to the research objective. The results showed that green concept’s economic effects centred on cost-effectiveness of building, managing and operating green houses. On the other hand, the concept’s affects on social sustainability centred on establishment of communal coexistence, productivity and continuity. Finally, the conceptual environmental effect centred on reduction of pollution and wastage of land. These findings revealed the overall significance of the green concept.
