Abstract

"The current studies indicate that Oman has witnessed a rapid growth in the construction industry which has noticeable effect on the environmental, social and economic aspects. And recently, Oman suffer from oil crisis and water scarcity which are sensitive resources to the country survival. In light of these issues Oman Government have approach the green construction practice as one of the leading remedies and as green concept is still new to Omani people, there are ongoing efforts to introduce it and develop different initiatives to promote and explore the challenges which hinder its engagement to the country.
This research make use of structured interviews and questionnaire to identify the current challenges and explore the remedies and roles of both government, private and public sectors in making this concept desirable. Majority of respondents strongly agreed that the capacity/professional is the foremost challenge amongst other challenges. The findings suggest that more awareness programs shall be delivered to public and the government shall introduce new building regulations and codes and many other efforts are necessary to push green construction to the forefront.
This paper investigate the green progress and the future prospects. And the proposed recommendations of this study shall help promoting and improving the green construction practice in the Omani construction industry in the future."
