To identify the current use of Building Information Modelling within the AEC industry; together with discovering the implications of BIM implementation and the feasibilities of adopting Level 2 BIM in the near future.

Abstract

There have been many studies in relation to BIM, however within the AEC industry BIM is still in its early stages of Implementation. This research study was formed to identify the current use of Building Information Modelling within the AEC industry, together with discovering the implications of BIM implementation and the feasibilities of adopting Level 2 BIM in the near future. The aims were achievable because the level of BIM within the industry was addressed in accordance with level 2 BIM. The barriers of implementation were also considered. Level 1 and 2 BIM were the most used levels of BIM in the study. Level 3 BIM was seen in little data. 63% of Level 2 BIM users agreed that BIM would improve stakeholder collaboration. Additionally it was established that BIM is more likely to improve project delivery if companies could work at a higher level.
