Evaluating Disability Accessibility in the Social Housing Sector.

Abstract

Part M of the Building Regulations 2015 included provisions for ‘Accessibility and Adaptable dwellings’ (Part M, 2015). The area is in particular of great interest for me as I am visually impaired and suffer from deafness from a condition called Usher’s Syndrome Type Two. With the social housing sector being the largest contributor of providing dwellings for disabled occupant’s, research needed to undertake of what knowledge is known by professionals organisations, and whether implantation of the new revised Part M is being used to its full potential. Reading research will provide as to how we have reach to the current stage of Part M from its origins.
The methodology applied to this dissertation was a quantitative approach rather than a qualitative approach, reasons for this selection was to target professionals with a simple questionnaire survey to achieve a reliable outcome. Techniques and analysis were assembled using specialist data collecting software producing relevant charts and tables. Conclusions were made on the outcome of the findings with recommendations applied to each objective.
