Abstract

This Dissertation investigates Waterfront Urban Regeneration in the United Kingdom, It looks at Liverpool Docks, Salford Quays and London Docklands. The gaps based on this topic were the specific investigation and analysis on case study example of waterfront regeneration in the UK. The main aim of this study was to investigate waterfront urban regeneration in the UK to see whether or not the benefits are social, economic or both. The methodology used to carry out this research was quantitative. The data collection was carried out by conducting two questionnaires in Liverpool and Salford, this data was analysed by undertaking the measurement of central tendency which was presented in tables. The main findings of this study were Liverpool Docks has had many phases of development each with varying degrees of social and economic success, London Docklands was a huge economic success, Salford Quays redevelopment was a bigger economic than social success. The main conclusions of the investigation were urban regeneration has many different definitions and meanings it is part of wider urban policy which varies on the current government. Urban regeneration schemes have many phases of development which have different objectives and different means of financing them. Different urban regeneration schemes have varying degrees of success in relation to social and economic issues.
