Achieving Good Practice in Waste Management and Minimisation

Abstract

As the construction industry is the largest contributing sector of total waste generated in the UK, this dissertation will review, analyse and evaluate current waste management techniques and approaches in the construction industry.
This study will review current techniques of waste management currently being exercised in the construction industry. Recommendations of additional techniques will also be discussed along with advantages and disadvantages of each technique.
Research was undertaken by using questionnaires. The questionnaires was sent to various individual who worked in the construction industry as well as contractors. A total of 20 questionnaires was sent out and 10 was received giving a response rate of 50%. The results illustrated why waste management techniques are not practiced effectively in the industry and results clearly indicated why.
The overall conclusion found from the study is more encouragement is required by both the government and organisations tin order to achieve good practice in waste management and minimisation in the construction industry.
