Abstract

"Principle contractors have a number of delivery options to allow them to execute their works; this decision will be made based on a number of factors and considerations. This dissertation investigates the different delivery methods, and the considerations involved. This will further go on to investigate industry perceptions and how the decision is made.
The methodology used was qualitative research in the form of semi-structured interviews; this was used to investigate; (1) industry perceptions within the highways sector. (2) How the decision was made, to select the delivery method to be implemented. This research was analysed by the manual content analysis method, which allowed for the identification and consideration of key findings and trends.
The author would like to investigate the “self-delivery” method and compare this against the alternative delivery methods such as subcontracting. For this the author will investigate the considerations and advantages and disadvantages of both delivery methods such as “skills”, “commercial” and “risk”, and look at key drivers within the decisions made.
