Timber frame dwelling houses in the UK; the benefits, pitfalls and the assessment for the potential for market growth

Abstract

This dissertation will analyse and appraise both leading forms of domestic construction, timber-frame and masonry. This author will meticulously provide an in-depth analysis of both methods of construction in relation to economical viability, materials and sustainability performance and then present an accurate appraisal of both construction methods advantages and disadvantages.
Significantly it will also to provide a comprehensive look at the history of both forms of construction to reach an inclusive background on the past of both materials and the impact and benefits this has indefinitely had on the selected construction techniques in the present era.
Through a combination of primary and secondary data collection techniques the construction and sustainability performance of these two building types were examined methodically, in order to evaluate which method of construction should be adopted for future housing construction in England. Examination of both leading representatives Timber Research and Development Association Brick Development Association were fundamental to this author’s dissertation.
