Abstract

Journal Clubs have been used in medical education to promote discussion and critical evaluation of published research. They have also been used to teach skills of critical appraisal as well as to promote practice change in healthcare. The School of Public Health and Clinical Science offers all undergraduate students the opportunity to attend optional Journal Club sessions. This paper presents a case study of one undergraduate student’s reported perceptions of attending this Journal Club. Emergent themes from the student’s experience include increased skills and confidence, plus transferable academic skills. The key messages indicate that this learning experience may have applications across other disciplines.
