Abstract

The dissertation is about the level of awareness of the society in Oman, the level of awareness on oil spills and environmental impact of oil on the marine life, the outcome of the dissertation will evaluate whether intervention centres are required or not depending on the level of awareness, the dissertation highlights the society in the coast line of Oman where the society can get involved in helping the government voluntarily to protect the marine life. The dissertation splits the public in the coast line into two the fishermen and the local public, the reason for that is to assess their knowledge and awareness about the marine life and the affects of oil spills on the marine life. As fishermen may have some knowledge about the marine life because of the nature of their job, however the public would have an understanding of the situation as it is estimated that they may have better education then the fishermen in Oman. The reason of concentrating on the fishermen and the coast line public is because the society in the coast line are more likely to spot an oil spill, that will allow a faster response, which may reduce the level of risk to the marine life.
