Abstract

This study explores the public’s perception about the recent rise of the supermarket’s
green schemes. The aim of this study is to assess the potential of a large firm to
adapt to and exploit, traits associated with drastic environmental change and thus
does this effect public perception and shopping habits; with specific example to
Marks and Spencer plc. This survey was conducted on 200 members of the general
public during September-October 2009. The results from this survey showed that a
high percentage of respondents do try to follow an environmentally friendly lifestyle
and they also agree that the supermarkets are actively encouraging or promoting an
environmentally aware lifestyle.
