Impressit [Latin: for ‘has printed’]

Abstract

The landscape for Contemporary Printmaking continually changes; global communication has enabled much greater international collaboration for a wider community of Printmakers. Printmaking, both in its message and its means of production, remains a democratic and collaborative process and now play a more pivotal role in mainstream contemporary art.

Printmaking facilitated by UCLan in recent years has developed a significant reputation for collaborative and cultural exchange projects, notable examples are ‘Talking Prints’, ‘Artlab Contemporary Printmaking Studios’ , ‘Injured Text’ with Liverpool JMU. ‘Eight Days A Week: Liverpool and Cologne Project’ and ‘Global Echo’ an international printmaking initiative linking educational institutions.

UCLan has built on these creative initiatives by facilitating opportunities for artists to experience inter collegiate dialogue, residency programmes, creative collaborations, exchanges and professional exhibition opportunities firmly establishing UCLan print studios as a leader in contemporary print in the UK.

‘Impressit’ brings together a selection of invited artists in a curated exhibition of works exploring both traditional printmaking processes as well as works which challenge and redefine the ideas of printmaking and installation of paper works.

The ‘Impressit’ exhibition held in the 3 main galleries will include ‘the educational printmaking interactive space’, ‘the printmaking invitational’ of selected contemporary artists and new work by UCLan staff Pete Clarke, Tracy Hill and Magda Stawarska-Beavan.
