Abstract

The planning and development of towns and cities is a very important process. It
shapes the physical setting for life in urban areas and involves the design of buildings,
spaces and landscapes. These then establish the processes that make successful
development possible. Push and pull factors such as amenities and aesthetics affect
were people live and their quality of life. As space for living becomes more of an
issue as population increases it is logical that the space is planned out so that it can
reach its full potential.
As towns expand to keep up with demand for housing, green field sites are being lost
to these developments. This dissertation aims to look the habitat change in Cannock,
Staffordshire as the town develops and record the findings. It also aims to consider
the prospect of offsetting some of the lost habitat by recreating it on the local landfill as
it closes. Local public opinions will be recorded through a series of questionnaires,
surveys and interviews and taken into consideration for the final outcome.
