Abstract

Past, Present and Future Environmental Status of the University of Central
Lancashire Is a comprehensive dissertation to appreciate the importance of
sustainability in relation to the University.
The literature review recognises the past knowledge and concepts that are
viewed in relation the changing dynamics of the international and national opinion
of environmental status.
The University of Central Lancashire, (UCLan) has had a positive introduction to
environmental issues, being the first university in England to hold an
environmental committee and produce a sustainable audit of all its departments.
The identification of the data for this research was one of qualitative methods that
were then used to attain statistical analysis to develop the attentiveness of
issues towards environmental concerns at UCLan.
A comprehensive questionnaire and completed by 115 people, the survey group
was recognised to identify the behavior of the cross section of students,
academic staff and teaching staff in relation to sustainable and environmental
questions.

Interviews were also carried out with the management staff whose job roles are
primary concerned with sustainability at UCLan.
The sustainability of the University is assed also through a myriad of topics,
transport, energy consumption and environmental management system just to
mention three. All the topics are related to the environmental status of UCLan.
The outcome of the research identifies that UCLan is sustainable for the near
future coming. The Universities attentiveness towards market forces has
achieved growth of student numbers and courses over many years. In
recognition the University has been awarded many accolades that the author
discusses in this paper.
