Abstract

The Isle of Man has its fair share of transport problems, although not to the
same extent as other areas of the UK, aiming to achieve a sustainable
transport system must be seen as being more important than deciding if an
area has major traffic problems or not. This paper presents an analysis of a
number of different factors that could help achieve a ‘best policy for a
sustainable transport system on the Isle of Man. The research is different from
many of the traditional papers on the subject, which have been seen to focus
on forecasted models and often undertaken by transport planners and
economists. This project focused on a several different factors, such as the
possible introduction of congestion charges, urbanisation, and relocation of
offices. The outcome of the results have shown that each of the factors can
be seen at having different effects on future transport movement, and whether
there is a best policy for future transport policy has been seen as difficult to
evaluate.
