Public’s Perception of a Proposed and an Established Wind Farm

Abstract

Since the early 1990’s wind farms have been expanding across the globe.
They provide clean environmentally friendly energy and produce enough
electricity for thousands of homes. There is much to learn from existing
research on wind energy.
This dissertation focuses on the public’s perception of the Coal Clough wind
farm and the proposed wind farm site at Denshaw; both are situated in
Lancashire. The thesis aims to draw out differences between the two sites.
The research carried out consists solely of data obtained via structured
questionnaires. These results are supported with the use of existing data
and theories. The results draw upon why these changes have occurred, in
respect usually due to external factors such as public awareness of
renewable and non renewable energies, the public involvement of planning
and other factors discussed in the study.
