Abstract

Flickering Souls Set Alight (2019) is the final short film produced during the PhD research of Iakovos Panagopoulos in the University of Central Lancashire with the title: "Reshaping Contemporary Greek Cinema Through a Re- evaluation of the Historical and Political Perspective of Theo Angelopoulos's Work”. The production of the final short film of the research Flickering Souls Set Alight (2019) was one of the most essential parts of this research. This production had to illustrate all the theoretical findings of this research and to be able to stand as an example of a new kind of Greek political cinema.

Plot: Greece, 2017. The lack of financial support of Aris (who suffers from Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis / ALS) urges his wife Persephone to get confronted with human existential limits. "How many years does it really take to finally reach «home»?”
