Abstract
This study is a quantitative investigation researching the different parameters that influence the channel form along the Sulby River and Lhen Trench on the Isle of Man. The main aims of this investigation are to analyse whether the superficial geological strata both rivers pass through is the main factor restricting river form from expanding and if other factors, such as vegetation or landuse, controlled the river form. Measurements of the alluvial characteristics and river form were obtained in order to establish a suitable comparison between the Sulby River and Lhen Trench. By recording results at numerous sites along each river, patterns may emerge between each river, downstream and laterally along the floodplains. These patterns will then be subjected to statistical analysis to examine the interrelationships between the parameters tested.
