Abstract
The focus of the investigation is on the friendship patterns of primary children in years five and six. The research involved interviews with one hundred and twenty-six children in four Northern primary schools. From this, friendless children were identified and observed. Class Teachers were also questioned to establish their feelings on the children. Questions were also asked to the Class Teachers about friendships in their classroom. Suggestions have been made as to how friendships between children could be fostered in order to promote a happier working environment in the classroom.
