Abstract
OUR PLEDGE
I PROMISE, by God's help, to abstain from all intoxicating drinks, and to help others to do the same.
Magic Lantern shows were sometimes used to explain abstention to the audience; this slide is an example of this as the pledge could be read and understood before it was signed. It was also perhaps used to remind people of their promise.
